During the same period, security forces thwarted 223 of these assaults, according to a key Saudi security agency
RIYADH, February 13, 2018 (CIC) – Saudi Arabia was the target of 841 terrorist attacks from 1979 through 2017, according to the Presidency of State Security.
During these 38 years, security forces thwarted 223 of these attacks, according to the presentation made by the top security agency at Al Janadriyah Festival near Riyadh.
The attacks did not take place only in the Kingdom. In fact, 22 criminal operations were carried out against Saudi diplomatic and economic entities abroad.
These operations claimed 3,007 victims, including 333 security personnel. A total of 695 terrorists were killed and 346 injured.
Saudi security forces stymied many attacks over the years as they confiscated manufactured and improvised explosives from several groups and individuals. Security personnel seized 47 tonnes of explosives, more than 240 suicide vests, 450 hand grenades, 374 RPGs and three SAM7 rockets. These were seized from terrorist outfits that identified themselves as Hezbollah in Hijaz, Kuwaiti Hezbollah, Al- Qaeda and Daesh or ISIS.
Ten ISIS suspects went on trial at the Specialized Criminal Court in Riyadh last week for planning and carrying out attacks on security forces. They include eight Saudis and two Yemenis.
