RIYADH, February 9 – To meet growing demand for potable water in the Makkah region, the Water & Electricity Company (WEC) Board of Directors, chaired by the Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture, Abdulrahman Alfadley, has approved the issuance of the Request for Proposals for Rabigh-3 IWP.
By issuing the RFP on Thursday to pre-qualified companies in the private sector, WEC hopes to add an additional 600,000 cubic meters of desalinated water to the production in the Makkah region. Makkah region is the most densely populated area in the Kingdom.
Rabigh-3 IWP will filter water using Reverse Osmosis (RO), which is energy efficient and constitutes the most advanced technology in the field.
The issuance of the RFP is part of the company’s efforts to achieve the goals of Vision 2030 and to involve the private sector in the Kingdom’s development by providing high quality services to the residents of the region and those making pilgrimages. It comes as part of the design to meet the expected increase in the Kingdom’s water requirements.
