The new departments will be created within the Attorney General’s office
RIYADH, March 11 (CIC) – King Salman bin Abdulaziz has approved the establishment of specialised prosecution departments in the Attorney General’s office to investigate and prosecute corruption cases.
In a statement, carried by Saudi Press Agency (SPA), Attorney General Sheikh Saud Al-Mujib said that the move “comes within the framework of King Salman’s interest in combating corruption in all its forms and protecting the country’s resources”.
Al-Mujib said that the “Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince are keen to eradicate corruption with utmost force and transparency’’.
The Attorney General said that earlier his office used to handle public corruption cases through the Department of Crimes of Public Service. But to increase the effectiveness and the quality of performance, as well as to accelerate the process of combating corruption, the new departments was created, Al-Mujib said.
He pointed out that the judicial experts in the Attorney General’s Office are highly efficient in investigating and prosecuting crimes, adding that the Attorney General’s office is exclusively responsible for investigating all criminal cases.
The new arrangement is at the forefront of judicial reform being carried out in the Kingdom, Al-Mujib said.
