RIYADH, September 20, 2018 – The Saudi Ambassador to Yemen, Mohammed Saeed Al Jaber, who is also Executive Director of Esnad Center for Comprehensive Humanitarian Aid, met Martin Griffiths, the UN envoy to Yemen, at the headquarters of Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen in Riyadh today.
Mr Griffiths spoke about his efforts to bring the Iranian-backed Houthi militia back to the negotiating table following the failure of their representatives to attend the peace talks in Geneva.
The Saudi Ambassador reiterated Saudi Arabia’s support for the UN-backed peace process, based on the three pillars: the GCC Initiative and its executive mechanisms, the outcome of the Yemeni National Dialogue, and UN Security Council Resolution 2216.
The Ambassador also reviewed efforts of the Kingdom and the Coalition to support humanitarian operations in Yemen. He briefed Mr Griffiths on the plans and projects of the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (Emmar). Those plans include construction and implementation of humanitarian and infrastructure projects across different provinces in Yemen, including an upcoming project in the south-eastern governorate of Al Mahrah.
