Card for day of wrestling matches features some of WWE’s top names
RIYADH, October 31, 2018 – Following on the tremendous success of last April’s Greatest Royal Rumble at King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, the WWE is again teaming up with Saudi Arabia’s General Sports Authority (GSA) to stage the Crown Jewel wrestling extravaganza at King Saud University Stadium in Riyadh on Friday, November 2. The one-day event will feature some of the WWE’s top stars, including Brock Lesnar and Braun Strowman, who will face off in the headlining WWE Universal Championship Match.
The Crown Jewel is the second WWE event to be held in Saudi Arabia this year as part of a 10-year agreement between WWE and GSA. The agreement is in in line with Vision 2030, the Saudi roadmap for the future that encourages the growth of athletics and entertainment in the Kingdom. Airing live on the WWE Network, the Crown Jewel will be available on pay-per-view outside the Middle East, a region where the WWE has had a successful presence for 20 years and enjoys widespread popularity.
The Crown Jewel card guarantees many exciting confrontations. In addition to the Universal Championship Match, current World Champion AJ Styles will battle it out for the title of World Champion while the Smackdown Tag Team Championship Match pits The New Day against current champions, The Bar (with Big Show). In a unique and dramatic wrinkle to the Riyadh event, for the first time since 2010, Shawn Michaels will return to the ring alongside Triple H as DX takes on The Brothers of Destruction, comprising The Undertaker and Kane.
Also on tap is the first-ever WWE World Cup Tournament, featuring Kurt Angle, Seth Rollins and Dolph Ziggler along with SmackDown Competitors Randy Orton, Jeff Hardy, Rey Mysterio and The Miz.
The Crown Jewel is expected to fill to capacity the 25,000-seat football stadium at Riyadh’s King Saud University.
